A Learn to Dance 'Did-you-know?' -  Tango – it traces its origins from Argentine, Spanish, and Brazilian influences. The Tango is a dance wherein the dance partners are almost chest to chest so it creates immediately intimacy.  TANGO, the dance, is a conversation between two people. You, and a dance partner, can express musical moods through improvised movements. You can dance simple tango after one lesson, but spend a lifetime developing your own dancing. Tango originated in the "Rio de la Plata" at the turn of the last century, and born within the immigrant and lower class communities in this area. During the next few decades tango spread throughout South American society and then throughout the world.

A Learn to Dance 'Did-you-know?' - Samba – the Samba has a contagious and lively rhythm that makes people want to dance. This originated in Brazil but it is a popular dance all over the world.  This national dance of Brazil became the rage of its society in the 1930's but began as an exhibition dance in Paris in 1905. Movie star & singer Carmen Miranda, is credited with making the Samba dance popular in the U.S. in the early 1940's. Today's Samba music is influenced by Jazz and Latin rhythms. It is written in 2/4 or 4/4 time. The music is festive and fast paced with a sound associated with Rio's Carnival. The basic count is "Slow a Slow" or "1 & 2".

A Learn to Dance 'Did-you-know?' -  Cha cha – this is said to be the youngest Latin dance in the country but it is easily one of the most popular. The name "cha-cha" first appeared in Haiti, where it was the name of a component of a bell. This bell was made from a plat that made a "cha-cha" noise when rubbed. Haitians quickly learned to use the bell element as an instrument to keep time as well. The "cha-cha" was, therefore, probably the first metronome to hit Haiti. The cha-cha was actually created from the mambo, when it toured America. Several audiences complained that the mambo was too fast and jerky for their taste. Orchestras began slowing it down, and the cha-cha was created from this new beat.
